Emotional Baggage edition by Wynter Daniels Literature Fiction eBooks

Everyone carries some emotional baggage in their life. Reese had more than her share, with an abusive and overly strict father, who caused her to leave the only man she loved. Even after her father's death she just kept herself working, mainly over seas. She finally comes home and is arrested. She had received a rental property from her father and had missed several dates in court since she was out of the country. Now she must live in this rundown building with a ankle monitor and she is a major germaphobe. She meets a man living their named Jon. She feels so relaxed with him, she doesn't know why. When Jon see's Reese, he realizes the love of his life has just re entered his life, but will she be able to forgive him for everything he has done and understand why he is in disguise. I enjoyed this quick, romantic read from Wynter Daniels. With great secondary characters that add to the story. When one door closes another one opens.

Emotional Baggage edition by Wynter Daniels Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book started out with a good premise- heroine who is a clean freak is labelled a slum lord because the apartment building she inherits is falling apart. She is sentenced to live in the building for 6 months and fix it. The whole book falls apart after this.

The hero is an ex-boyfriend who is hiding from the law. He is disguised so she does not recognize him. This part of the story is a hot mess. The reason he is hiding is silly and he never exhibits good judgment about his situation. He has pretty much wasted many years as a fugitive. There is also no legal basis for most of the fugitive story and to say anything more about this would be a spoiler for this short story. I found him silly and unfortunately I cannot find a silly, foolish man sexy- especially toward the end of the story when his situation is fully uncovered.

The book was inconsistent on the details. These errors were both on major and minor details.

KIn a major inconsistency, the author wavered back and forth about the ages of the characters and the length of their separation. Sometimes the characters were 30 and had been separated for about 10 years. Iin other parts of the story, they were 40 and separated for 20 years. I was hoping for the 10 year separation because she was a little too immature in thoughts and actions to have made it through her 30s. As for him, I would hope that he had not been a fugitive in his situation for so long.

The book was also inconsistent on the condition of the building. It never really came across as being a slum except for the fact that there was a roach or two seen. While this would definitely freak me out, I cannot see a whole building being labelled a slum in court over a few bugs. Also, the heroine was supposed to be an obsessive clean freak but she was okay living in this "slum" and at one point well before the ending, even considered remaining there.

This was an interracial romance because she was black and he was white. There. I have actually addressed this more than it was addressed in the story. If you are looking for some interracial drama, this is not the story for you.

And, even with all this other stuff I did not like about this book, the ultimate was the one sex scene was skimpy and dull!!!

This book earned 2 stars from me. One for the premise because the book did start out with some promise and the second because Ms. Daniels actually made the effort to write a book. I have read and enjoyed some of her other books so I know I will give her another look in the future but this book was a huge miss for me.
"Emotional Baggage" reminds us that everyone deserves a Second Chance, especially when it comes to love. I truly enjoyed Evan and Reese's story about finding that love that you lost and never imagined having a chance to rekindle. Initially I saw Reese as this stuck up woman who needed a wakeup call, but soon realized that she was not that way at all. I felt bad about her reaction to Evan/Jon's true identity, but she was able to search her heart and realize exactly how much he meant to her. Great job Wynter because character chemistry oozed from the pages.

This is a quick read about Reese and Evan. They were young, in love and forbidden to see each other by Reese's father.
10 years later they meet again under incredible circumstances, because Reese has no idea it is Evan. He is disguised and in hiding from the law. He is afraid of her reaction if he tells her anything but can he live with the lie?
Reese is dealing with her own issues left over from the abuses of living under her father's tyranny which cost her the only man she could ever love. So what is it about this guy that makes her feel so safe and familiar?
I really enjoyed this erotic and sometimes quirky romance. Its a fast read, perfect to curl up in a chair with on a rainy afternoon.
